5 Bridges Equipment
This entry is different to the other eight. Items 1–8 are site assessments of existing skateparks in Gateshead. This is a short note on the obstacles from the original 5 Bridges Plaza, which are held in council storage following the 2025 closure and remain available for relocation to the chosen replacement site.
Condition: confirmed good. The equipment is in serviceable condition and suitable for direct reuse at the chosen replacement site — clean, repaint, install. No per-item condition assessment is needed; relocation cost is the equipment-relocation line in § F Finance.
Context
| Original location | 5 Bridges Plaza (NE8 4AU) — closed 2025 |
|---|---|
| Current location | Council storage |
| Condition | Good — direct reuse |
Inventory (typical 5 Bridges features)
The original park carried a plaza/street feature set: ledges, manual pads, flatbars, rails, hubbas, banks, and small transition elements. Specific item counts and dimensions inform the Phase 1 equipment layout once a site is selected; for the purposes of this study the relevant fact is that the feature set is intact and reusable.
Site Fit
| Site | Footprint fit | Terrain fit |
|---|---|---|
| Askew Road (842 m²) | Tight — forces careful curation of which items reused | Good — dense plaza layout matches original 5 Bridges feel |
| Gateshead Stadium (4,883 m²) | Generous — relocated equipment likely sparse across site | Good — open area suits plaza/street layout |
| Car park conversion (TBC) | Dependent on chosen building | Good for plaza/street items; bowl/tall transition not viable on enclosed levels |
Reuse approach is set out per-site in § 6 Site Proposals; the relocation cost line (working estimate £30–50k across all three approaches) is in § F.2 Finance.
